PUPPETS
Puppets have many uses, including encouraging shy children to speak up.
The opportunity for children to make their own puppets makes the activity even more enjoyable and worthwhile educationally.
Many teachers sigh at the thought of trying to make puppets. They want a template for a simple finger puppet or stick puppet rather than searching around for suitable materials for a more functional puppet.
The 'Mouth Puppet' below is made from a single piece of paper (can be scrap paper re-used, or can be nice coloured paper), which needs to be folded and decorated.
To make it possible for even Year 1 students to create and use this puppet, we have developed some templates that can be printed out to make folding and decorating easier.

An example of using these puppets in the classroom is given here. (On the KSSR Text Year 3 page.)

Instructions:
- Fold the paper in thirds, using the dotted lines as a guide.
- Fold the paper in half, with the eyes on the inside of the fold.
- Now fold the ends back up to the middle - the eyes will now be visible.
- Decorate - add features around the eyes - ears, hair ... Add features inside the mouth - tongue, teeth.
