Word search
Children all love doing a 'Word-search' or 'Word-maze' or 'Word-sleuth' - whatever you choose to call it.
These are very easy to create to suit any word-list that you want the children to focus on. There are many websites which provide this service. My favourite is ArmoredPenguin. Click on the link, or you can search and find one you prefer.

Here is a Word-Search that took me only a few minutes to create. I used words from the Year 3 Text Book Topic 5 about 'Having Fun'. Included here is also the answer sheet.

Topic 8 - Its Story Time!
1. Storytelling with Puppets (Goldilocks and the 3 Bears)
I was doing some storytelling with a year 3 class. I chose to tell the story of "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears" because it is a traditional story and we hear it many times throughout our lives. The story is included later in the Text Book, but it doesn't do any harm for the children to have heard it already - in fact with these types of stories children generally enjoy coming across something that feels familiar to them.

I printed pictures related to the story (3 bowls of porridge, 3 chairs, and 3 beds - easily found on Google Images) onto coloured construction card. This is slightly thicker than coloured photocopy paper, and strong enough to sticky-tape a straw on the back.
While I was telling the story, I involved a number of children who came and held up the various items as I was talking about them.

I also presented the characters - Father Bear, Mother Bear, Baby Bear, and Goldilocks - as straw puppets for the children to hold up. The pictures are easy to find and choose from somewhere like on "Google Images", and are also printed on construction card with straws sticky-taped to the back to make them easy to hold.
But THEN in order to put more emphasis on the favourite part of the story where the 3 Bears realise someone has been eating their porridge, sat in their chairs, or slept in their beds ... I switched to 'Mouth Puppets'.
